  13.       (TUCSON, Ariz. -- November 19, 1991) -- Artisoft, Inc., the
  14. Tucson-based manufacturer of the LANtastic« Local Area Network,
  15. announced today that it has begun shipping its new Central Station
  16. connectivity processor, a cost-effective solution for network
  17. peripheral connectivity. The modem-sized multiport hardware device
  18. is designed to allow users to connect a variety of peripherals,
  19. including notebook computers, printers and modems, to a LANtastic
  20. or NetWare« Ethernet network. The basic version is priced at $595
  21. and includes facilities to connect notebook or laptop computers as
  22. well as printers to a Local Area Network.

  24.       Artisoft is offering, for a limited time, a free copy of the
  25. upcoming Print Server StationWare software to users with proof of
  26. purchase of the Central Station connectivity processor. This
  27. software allows the Central Station connectivity processor to
  28. function as a network print server. This offer is for a limited
  29. time only, subject to change without notice, and subject to the
  30. availability of the Print Server StationWare software.

  33. generation of multifunction peripheral-sharing devices,"  said Jack
  34. Schoof, Artisoft President and CEO. "It provides a versatile,
  35. cost-effective solution for connecting notebook computers,
  36. printers, modems, and other devices to a network."

  38.       Artisoft's Central Station connectivity processor allows users
  39. to quickly connect notebook computers and peripherals to a
  40. LANtastic or NetWare Ethernet network. Laptops can be plugged in
  41. for full access to the network, and then disconnected 
  42. without disrupting the network.

  44.       The Central Station connectivity processor comes with 128K
  45. onboard upgradable RAM, a PC interface port, one parallel port, two
  46. serial ports, and an optional SCSI port, and connects to Ethernet
  47. networks running with either thin coax or 10BASE-T cabling. A 5'
  48. parallel cable (included) connects the Central Station PC interface
  49. port to the PC's parallel port to establish a slotless Ethernet
  50. network connection. On its front panel, Central Station LEDs
  51. monitor and display its port activity, twisted-pair link integrity
  52. and power.

  54.       The functionality of the Central Station connectivity
  55. processor can be enhanced with the addition of optional StationWare
  56. application software. Sold separately on diskette, the StationWare
  57. software downloads into the Central Station connectivity
  58. processor's 32K of flash PEROM. The first StationWare application
  59. to be released will allow the Central Station connectivity
  60. processor to act as a network print server and attach printers to
  61. its parallel or serial ports. The second StationWare software
  62. application to be released will allow users to attach a modem to
  63. the Central Station connectivity processor so that they can
  64. remotely access the network.
